Ruminating About Her Again

A blazing heart
Pins and needles in the bloodstream
A short step and a long creak
Footprints left in the dust
A corridor with every door open
All the lights are off
Every candle flickers together
No wisdom found in rotten wood
The wind whispers
Harsh and unwelcome
Splinters all over
Green pus and yellow bruises
The colors of dried flowers left behind
A piercing sigh
Stars reflected in eyes
Little hope gasping for air
Pressure and pressure

Sudden second wind

The feeling of disquiet ceasing
More stars than there ever were clouds
A skylight like a halo hanging overhead
Dust lifts up like wisps guiding the lost
The one closed door
Opens after the knob is twisted
Revealing the stage
Where thunderous applause awaits
But not the soul you were looking for
With unsteady eyes
The little hope trembling
Blood pooling inside from a bitten cheek
A droplet of red stains the vinyl
They weren’t there after all

It was to be expected

Find the exit instead
Walk down the aisles
The audience had already vanished
Only you remain
The candles snuffed one after another
Mysterious forces
The air is heavy now
A blinking exit sign hangs loosely
Bitter tears born from neglected words
Drops of blue and red
A purple haze
It's midnight
A long walk outside in the dark
Starlight illuminating the way home
Get there safely

Take the pen and write some more
