Dear God,
Dare I aspire for a horizon of promise
Away from where all my dreams lie before me,
Their bodies still warm,
Their hands still reaching for the sky
As if in their last moments
They still chose to believe in You?
I am alone in a desolate field
Embittered and stained with malcontent
With nothing but reproach left;
God, please, tell ME
— There is nobleness in me still;
To You, I pray:
Your Son begs for Your Grace;
Let my heart be untainted,
Let my soul be washed of its sin.
My deplorable qualities should be purged
Even if each toxin must be ripped from me violently
Like needles from my skin;
Strip it all from me until I am
Good Again.
Amen.
