About Me

“Writing is prayer.”

– Franz Kafka
Hello. My name is Kekaiʻolu Rodriguez, although I commonly go by as Kekai. Sometimes Kai, but I am not a fan of that, so please don't refer to me as such, although I will not stop you. I was born and raised in Hawaiʻi, went to college in Arizona, and currently reside in Washington State. I am a software developer, but more intimately, I am a writer.

One of my core memories as a child was when I was praised over something I had written in third grade. I mainly recall my teacher impressed by my use of imagery, and while she may have said that to encourage me and perhaps truly thought nothing of what I had written, it left a lasting impact on me. It is the type of thing that sticks with you for life. I had come to a revelation: this is something I may be destined to do.

While I unfortunately no longer have the work that began my interest in writing, its legacy continues to live on as my fervor for the craft continues to grow. I have always had a need to express myself. Through words, I am able to uncover the insights and sparks that exist deeply within me. It is a form of self-discovery.

Growing up, I would devour book after book, fostering my foundation as a reader-writer. After I graduated high school and entered college, however, I would lose this interest. In a way, I had lost myself. A large part of my developmental period was centered around reading and writing. I would barely read, I would sparsely write. In spite of that, I never truly lost it, it was just locked away and floating in space, waiting to be found again.

I mourned it. I yearned for it. I found it again.

This portfolio serves as a way for me to share my writing. I am not so arrogant to declare my proficiency as elite, but I will say, I am somewhat decent at this at least, I believe.

I hope you enjoy my art. Thank you.
